The Saskatoon police traffic unit will be paying extra attention to school zones this week.
In particular, they’ll be looking for people making U-turns, which are illegal in a school zone and subject to a $90 fine.
The extra enforcement comes following a spike in violations and complaints.
Police reminded drivers that kids playing near a school zone may not be able to anticipate a vehicle suddenly changing direction.
They also noted blind spots change while a driver is making a U-turn, potentially making them unable to see what’s happening outside their vehicle.
Speed limits in Saskatoon’s school zones are set at 30 km/h Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. between September and June, including statutory holidays.
