The Blue Jays have gone through it, now it appears to be the Toronto Raptors’ turn to overcome indifference from America’s sports fans.
Last Friday the Raptors faced the Houston Rockets in a battle of conference leaders. The game was not on national television.
Raptors coach Dwayne Casey was on Prime Time Sports last night, and said there was a “lazy narrative” coming from the United States about his basketball team.
History has shown Toronto has underachieved in the playoffs and, as a result, their incredible accomplishments are being dismissed.
It was interesting to hear Casey say his American-born players had a chip on their shoulders, and that the team is using the disrespect as “fuel” for the stretch drive.
Like the Blue Jays, the Raptors will never get the attention of Golden State, Boston or Cleveland on America’s big stage.
The Red Sox, Yankees and Dodgers are always front and centre in Major League Baseball.
All the Raptors can do to overcome this is to win when it counts.
