A public inquest will be held in Regina following the death of a 21-year-old woman.
Breanna Kannick died at the White Birch Remand Unit on Aug. 20, 2015.
She was found unresponsive in her cell. Despite the best efforts of emergency medical services, she was pronounced dead.
Kannick was waiting for a bail hearing on drug-related charges before she died.
There will be a public inquest into her death from Mar. 26 to 29 to be held at Regina’s Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites.
A public inquest is held when the coroner is not satisfied a person’s death was because of natural causes and was not preventable.
The purpose of the inquest is to examine the details surrounding a death and to offer recommendations to prevent similar deaths.
Coroner Alma Wiebe, Q.C. of Saskatoon will be presiding over the inquest.
