I think it’s safe to say where the NHL’s 32nd team will be.
Ten-thousand hockey fans in Seattle made season ticket deposits in 12 minutes on Thursday. While league commissioner Gary Bettman talks about “the process” the ownership group will have to go through, it’s not a stretch to think it’s a done deal.
There is definitely a market.
It’s not a surprise to see Bettman follow this up with a Friday trip to Calgary. Earlier this week, Bettman said he was going to meet with Flames’ sponsors and season ticket holders, but the topic of a new arena was not intended to be on the agenda.
That doesn’t mean that Bettman hasn’t been, or won’t be, asked about replacing the very old
Calgary Saddledome.
His response to that question is what will get the most play. We know what that response will be. The Saddledome needs to be replaced for the Flames to exist in the foothills.
Bettman will again get to deliver that message, even if that wasn’t his intent.
