The CFL did a good thing on Tuesday, but then CFL.ca didn’t do a good thing.
The good thing was that the league released the names of 10 players from each team’s negotiation list.
Those who have argued for many years that this would engage fans to talk about the CFL more during the off-season are right. It’s important to keep the CFL in the sports news cycle as often as possible in the off-season. As many of us have said for years, this is a way to do that.
But two of the players that were featured by Chris O’Leary as 11 players to watch at CFL.ca were former NFL stars Robert Griffin III and Colin Kaepernick.
I am a huge fan of O’Leary’s work. And I get it. They are big names. However, neither player has committed to the CFL.
We don’t need to justify the CFL to anyone by linking it to big-name players. The CFL just needs to put the same great product on the field and promote future players that will continue to make it that way.
