These aren’t the campers of your childhood.
Saskatoon’s major RV dealerships are showing off their latest fifth wheelers and hitch back trailers at Prairieland Park during the Indoor RV Show this weekend.
The newer models have multiple slide-out options, extending bedrooms and living spaces. Many of the RVs also feature flat-screen TVs, leather furniture and marble countertops.
Saskatoon resident Dave Deutscher sold his own RV 20 years ago and began shopping for a new one, and he’s impressed.
“It’s amazing,” he told 650 CKOM.
“A camper with a single slide-out was a fancy camper back then. Now some of them have six slide-outs, so quite a difference in those.”
Wendy Kaar was perusing her options Friday, looking to upgrade from her back hitch to a fifth wheeler.
She’s been RVing with her husband for 10 years around Sask., and said the difference in models between now and then is astounding.
“There’s so much comfort in them,” she said.
“They feel like home, yet they’re rugged enough if you’re into (riding ATVs) or something.”
But does it still feel like camping, like it did in the old days?
“Oh God no,” she said, laughing. “Have you seen the outdoor kitchens?”
The Indoor RV Show continues at Prairieland Park until January 28.
