Saskatchewan RCMP said an autopsy has confirmed what many had feared: A body found at the scene of a house fire on a northern First Nation belonged to a woman who had been reported missing in the aftermath of the blaze.
RCMP officers and firefighters from Loon Lake responded around 3 a.m. Sunday to the fire on the Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation, about 300 kilometres northwest of Saskatoon.
Police reported that a number of people managed to escape from the home with minor injuries, but a 32-year-old woman was unaccounted for. Investigators had found a body while going over the scene, they reported Wednesday.
While police were able to confirm the body was of the previously missing woman, they said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
