Tourism Saskatoon and SaskTel Centre are once again interested in bringing the Canadian Finals Rodeo to Saskatoon.
But that’s all they are, is interested at this point.
The rodeo is looking for a new home after the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association (CPRA) was unable to secure a deal to keep the event in Edmonton where it has been held for the past 44 years.
SaskTel Centre executive director, Scott Ford told 650 CKOM on Tuesday they’ve had an open dialogue with the CPRA since December.
Ford said no official bid has been submitted yet as they complete their due diligence.
“We’re certainly looking at it and seeing if its something that will work in our market.”
“We know it’s produced big numbers in Edmonton, but we don’t know whats all involved on the corporate side of things and the ticket side of things.”
Saskatoon came close to landing the event in 2016. An agreement was in place to host the finals for three years starting in 2017, but CPRA pulled the plug, instead deciding to keep it in Edmonton.
Ford said the CPRA has given them no deadline to submit by.
