I wanted to believe Johnny Manziel was in for the right reasons: to try to resurrect his career in the CFL.
But then his agent’s statement late Monday killed that notion for me.
Famed NFL agent Erik Burkhardt broke his silence and created a lot of noise with the wording that the negotiation list of the CFL is archaic and restrictive.
He also gave the Tiger-Cats a Jan. 31 deadline as well as a contract request. The request was a fair deal is similar to the money they were paying their quarterback the last few years without much on-field success.
A direct reference to Zach Collaros’ contract that made him the highest paid player in the league.
Yes, Burkhardt is coming out with a most unreasonable request.
What is fair for Manziel? A deal similar to that of Vince Young, who got a reasonable deal done with incentives for starts, performance etc.
By the wording of the statement, the ridiculous salary request and a deadline, it sounds like Manziel’s agent isn’t interested in bringing his client to Canada.
