The Saskatoon Blades rang in the new year by extending their win streak to five games with a 4-2 win over the Swift Current Broncos on Monday afternoon at SaskTel Centre.
Josh Paterson, who has eight goals in five games, broke a 2-2 tie with his 19th goal of the season at the 5:36 mark of the third period.
Dryden Michaud, Evan Fiala and Braylon Shmyr scored the other Saskatoon goals. Ethan Regnier and Kole Gable scored for the Broncos.
Saskatoon goaltender Nolan Maier won his 8th straight start making 20 saves.
The Blades now have 41 points and are tied with Regina for the first wildcard spot in the eastern conference.
Saskatoon plays three games in three nights starting Friday when they host the Red Deer Rebels at 7:05 at SaskTel Centre.
