The Porcupine Hills park will include existing provincial recreation sites at McBride Lake, Saginas Lake, Pepaw Lake, Parr Hill Lake and Woody River.
The area is culturally significant for Indigenous people and the province began consultation with local First Nations and Métis groups back in 2011.
The province noted in a news release that hunting and fishing within the new park will continue to be managed the same way as they currently are.
Campgrounds are also to remain small and simple, as part of a commitment to preserve the area’s natural features.
