The Saskatoon Blades appear to be finding their footing in the WHL after a pair of statement wins over the weekend.
Saskatoon beat the powerhouse Swift Current Broncos 4-3 on the road Friday before a 4-1 home win over Brandon on Saturday.
“That’s our best two games of the year and you get two wins,” said Blades head coach Dean Brockman. “A lot of guys committed themselves to things that should have come 8 games ago.”
Cameron Hebig carried the Blades offense with five goals in the two games, starting with a hat-trick Friday in Swift Current. He added two more Saturday against Brandon.
On the defensive side, Ryan Kubic came up big for the Blades. The goaltender earned the first star on Friday with a 33 save performance, adding a 32 save win Saturday.
The two wins take the Blades out of the WHL eastern conference basement with a record of 5-7-1. They begin a Wednesday road trip Wednesday in Lethbridge.
