It’s somewhat fitting that the Grey Cup, to be held in our nation’s capital next month, is sold out.
Football fans in Ottawa have embraced the CFL since its return to that city in 2014.
Ottawa is one of seven Canadian markets with both an NHL team and a CFL team. Ironically, it’s the Senators that are having trouble moving tickets. The RedBlacks have a loyal following.
This year’s Grey Cup celebration will be in direct contrast to what took place four and a half hours south of Ottawa last year.
In Toronto, tickets to the 2016 Grey Cup game could barely be given away.
Sadly, Toronto is Canada’s centre of the universe. It’s sad because in many respects, as is the case with the CFL, Toronto can be very unCanadian.
Kudos to Ottawa for not getting sucked into a Canadian inferiority complex that other Ontario markets fall into when it comes to CFL football.
