It was 25 years ago — Oct. 24, 1992 — when the Toronto Blue Jays won the first of two World Series with a game six victory over Atlanta.
Canadian interest in the World Series hasn’t been the same since the ‘92 and ’93 championship seasons.
Had the New York Yankees defeated the Houston Astros in this year’s ALCS, a classic Yankees/Dodgers Series may have drawn some interest north of the 49th, but we settle for the Dodgers and Houston.
Having said all of that, I am looking forward to seeing this Astros team play in the 2017 fall classic.
Seven-year veteran Jose Altuve has come in to his own with Houston with a .346 batting average.
Third year infielder Carlos Correa is always dangerous. Houston also brought in some veterans for the 2017 season such as Carlos Beltran and pitcher Justin Verlander.
I’ll admit this year’s fall classic won’t hold my attention like it did over two decades ago, but this Dodgers/Astros match-up is still something I’ll make time for.
