A salute to Charlotte Observer reporter Jourdan Rodrigue.
After hearing what I consider to be a sexist remark from Carolina quarterback Cam Newton in response to a Rodrigue question at a media conference, Rodrigue did two things which she should be applauded for.
One, she verbally and directly communicated to Newton that his comments were inappropriate. Secondly, Rodrigue said she chose not to share her conversation with Newton because she has a job to do.
Newton mocked Rodrigue during the news conference when she asked about receivers “running routes.”
Newton laughed at her as to suggest she wasn’t qualified to use such football lingo.
She is.
Now the over-the-air and online discussion about Newton’s behaviour rages. To her credit, Rodrigue took her concerns right to Newton.
I assume Newton is one of many highly-paid athletes who doesn’t care that his response was inappropriate, or doesn’t possess the intelligence to know that his actions were inappropriate. It’s doubtful he’ll be shamed in public, so let’s move on.
It would appear that Jourdan Rodrigue has.
