A year after holding the first and third overall picks, the Saskatchewan Rush had to wait until number sixteen at the 2017 NLL draft.
Having traded their first round choice, the Rush added five new players in rounds two through six.
Nick Finlay of the Peterborough Lakers Jr. A side was the first pick for the Rush, adding a left handed shot transition man. Finlay can also chip in offensively, having scored 24 points in 20 games in the 2017 season.
Rounding out the picks was a local connection with Saskatoon’s Anothony Hallborg going in the final round. The rough and tough defender marks the second straight year the Rush have picked a hometown player.
“I think that is huge for lacrosse in Saskatchewan,” Hallborg said. “I never really thought it could happen.”
After a more lean 2017 draft than 2016, the Rush are stocked for years to come. Through trades Saskatchewan now owns three first round picks in both 2018 and 2019.
