A traffic stop on the Onion Lake First Nation took a dangerous turn Saturday afternoon, as RCMP officers were shot at from a stopped vehicle.
Onion Lake and Turtleford RCMP members had stopped a pickup truck in connection to a stolen vehicle around noon Saturday.
RCMP said a gun was then pointed in the direction of the officers, and at least one shot was fired before the truck driver tried to get away.
The truck didn’t get far, becoming stuck in a slough closeby. Another gunshot was directed towards RCMP, and an officer returned fire.
Three suspects then fled from the truck on foot, with two being caught shortly after by officers.
The third suspect was arrested Sunday.
No-one was injured during the confrontation.
Trevor Carter, 29, and Rocky Ochuschayoo, 22, each face one count of discharging a firearm with intent to wound, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault with a weapon, assaulting a police officer, flight from police and possession of stolen property over $5,000.
Ochuschayoo also faces a count of wearing a disguise with intent and possession of a firearm while prohibited.
The third suspect was released without charges.
Carter appeared in court Monday morning in Lloydminster, while Ochuschayoo will appear in Onion Lake Provincial Court Wednesday at 10 a.m.
