Connor McDavid has many fans during the hockey season. I am one of them.
I became an even bigger fan after the 20-year-old NHL super star spoke to the media on Wednesday about the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.
McDavid said he was “really upset” about the fact NHL players would not be competing in South Korea.
In the same short interview he added two thoughts which showed his respect for his peers and his team. When asked if he would challenge the decision, he was humble in saying there were other players who have been in the league a lot longer, and players that had a lot more pull than he does.
He then added he would have no interest in leaving his Oiler teammates for a month during the Olympics.
McDavid, who was born in 1997, doesn’t remember a time when the Canadian Olympic team was made up of non-NHL players.
The superstar was wise beyond his years in putting a controversial topic into proper perspective.
