Hannah Leflar murderer wrote of being a serial killer

“Do you ever want to be a serial killer?”

That was expressed by Hannah Leflar’s killer in Facebook messages the summer before the murder. 

The social media exchange between the teen and a friend was documented on day five of the sentencing hearing. 

The friend, now 19-years-old, who cannot be identified, met the teen through work and a friend. 

At the time of the exchange in Sept. 2014, Leflar had already broken up with the teen who pleaded guilty to her first degree murder in April 2016. 

In the late night exchange, the teen expressed wanting to hurt Leflar “because I love her” and then wanting to kill Leflar.

“She wouldn’t be safe around me.”

The friend said “want me to find her and beat her up?”

The friend told court she didn’t mean those words “I was 16 and talking smack.”

She expressed “smashing Leflar’s face into the pavement,” to which the teen answered he would like to see that. He messaged that Leflar always talked about being born with perfect teeth and he would want to see her coming to school with teeth missing. 

The friend told court she didn’t really mean it, that the two were just talking, but the teen killer expressed “I’m a broken person, it makes me feel better to talk like this.”

But when expressing that he would want to “throw a shovel, then she would die,” the friend replied “that’s too far.”

The teen killer sat stone-faced throughout most of the testimony, while the family of Leflar let out sighs and occasionally cried.

The defence played portions of a video interview conducted by Regina Police Service. She told investigators that most of her conversation with the teen happened in person, contradicting her statement on the stand that they hung out only occasionally.

As well, she told investigators that when the teen asked, “do you want to be a serial killer?”, she “flipped out on him.”

But the Facebook message showed she only joked about what it would be like in prison.

As she exited the court the girl stood up slowly and glared at the teen she walked directly passed him.

The teen stared straight ahead.

The sentencing hearing is being held because the Crown is seeking an adult sentence.

Leflar was found stabbed to death in her north Regina home in January 2015.
