A world leading cannabis company is taking the marijuana plant in Yorkton under its wing.
Canopy Growth purchased rTrees, which will now be called Tweed Grasslands.
The facility, which is owned and operated by people in Saskatchewan, will get better access to resources and an expansion to the plant is already underway.
“Engineers have already been on site,” said Andrew MacCorquodale, founder of Tweed Grasslands and head of operations for western Canada for Canopy Growth.
The company is already looking at filling 40-50 positions, with potentially more jobs to come in the future.
The facility is already 90,000 square feet and has the potential to expand to over 300,000 square feet.
The plant will be used to supply medical markets in Canada with medicinal marijuana, along with recreational cannabis once it become legal in Canada.
Now they’re working on getting approval from Health Canada.
