Regina’s Victoria Park will be looking greener after Sunday afternoon.
To celebrate Canada’s 150 birthday, Tree Canada paired up with the Canadian National Railway (CN) to have 150 tree planting ceremonies across the country.
Regina was picked to be the official kick-off city, with the event starting at 3 p.m.
“We have a free barbeque and a number of free family-friendly events that are coming up all afternoon,” said Mike Rosen, president of Tree Canada.
He added the initiative was made possible by CN’s donation of $25,000. The City of Regina matched that donation, making it possible to plant 75 trees in Victoria Park.
“We’re going to have a First Nations blessing,” Rosen said. “We’re going to have a very exciting powwow drum troop called Star Blanket Junior and were going to be having another dance group called the Steppers.”
Regina MP Ralph Goodale, along with city councillor and acting mayor Andrew Stevens will be in attendance for the ribbon cutting.
