The inaugural CFL Week in Regina was a huge success. The league should take some credit for staging a terrific event.
The CFL did well in putting itself in front of fans and media during the off season, but let’s be honest – it’s Saskatchewan fans that pushed it over the top.
Now the league has to make CFL Week a relevant event each and every year. The first order of business is to decide the location of the 2018 festivities.
I would say put it back in Regina. CFL Week would grow in the Queen City faster than anywhere else.
There may even be an opportunity to have events in other communities in this football-crazy province.
Once CFL Week reaches its full potential, other markets could bid to host it – much like a Grey Cup.
For now, Canada’s less knowledgeable football markets should let this Saskatchewan-based event evolve for another few years.
The rest of the nation can sit back and learn from this province how to make CFL Week a must-attend event.
