According to populations estimates released by Statistics Canada on Thursday, Saskatchewan’s population grew by 2,946 people in the last quarter of 2016 and up 17,217 throughout all of last year.
Both quarterly and annual numbers were third highest among Canadian provinces.
“The growing population shows that despite the budget challenges we are addressing, Saskatchewan’s economy remains strong and resilient,” Premier Brad Wall said in a news release. “Last month, Saskatchewan led the country in job growth, so I expect the population to keep growing as new opportunities attract new people to our province.”
Since 2007, the province’s population has grown by more than 163,000 people.
