There were parts of Tuesday’s Argos news conference that were alarming – and parts that were comforting – to Toronto football fans.

Tuesday’s confirmation that Jim Popp will be GM and Marc Trestman will be head coach came 14 days after free agency opened. This puts the new brain trust behind schedule for 2017.
There a bright side: In 2009 and 2010, the Popp/Trestman duo won back-to-back Grey Cups as the once proud Alouettes franchise flourished.
The Argos are now fighting to stay relevant in Toronto. There is no greater marketing tool than winning. The comforting part is the Argonauts have brought proven winners into the organization.
