A Regina man walked away half a million dollars richer on his coffee break earlier this month.
Calvin Harlos bought a $6 quick-picks ticket at a Saskatchewan Lotteries kiosk in the Cornwall Centre for the Lotto Max Feb. 3 draw.
He returned to the same kiosk on a coffee break a few days after the draw to check his tickets.
“When I scanned my third one at the kiosk, I saw a five and a bunch of zeroes,” Harlos said in a news release. “I thought it was $50,000.”
He said he got the shock of his life after asking the lottery clerk to verify the ticket for him.
“I was shocked when she told me it was $500,000, I couldn’t do anything,” he said. “I asked the clerk what to do. She said I should sign the ticket and take it to the Saskatchewan Lotteries office as soon as possible.”
The $500,000 was half of a $1 million prize won on a ticket purchased in Quebec.
