A Saskatoon band is angling for a spot on U.S. late-night television thanks to a stroke of luck on Friday.
Rylan Schultz, singer and guitar player for the Pistolwhips, was featured briefly in a segment on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
Fallon used a photo of Schultz standing outside on a cold day to punctuate a bit about how cold weather makes it look like you’re “always vaping.”
Schultz told Rock 102’s Shack, Watson and Whitney that the picture was part of a batch of promo shots he did for a solo album about six years ago.
As part of getting the photos done for free, he said he agreed to let the photographer keep the extras for a stock photo site.
Friday’s ‘Thank-you notes’ segment on Jimmy Fallon features a picture of Saskatoon’s Rylan Schultz at about the 3:20 mark.
When Schultz got word that his mug had been plastered in front of millions, he decided there was just one problem: the rest of his bandmates weren’t on the screen with him.
Schultz and his bandmates sprang into action over the weekend, packing fans into the Capitol to help with a video message to Fallon asking for a chance to play his show.
With the ball now in Fallon’s court, the band has their response video posted to YouTube and is encouraging fans to share it in the hope that it will land them a chance to play for millions of people.
