Dozens of people at Market Mall Saturday afternoon were trying to meet their match ahead of Valentine’s Day but it had nothing to do with dating.
It was a New Hope Dog Rescue adoption event.
“Anytime we do an adoption event we get an influx of applications,” said New Hope’s Alix Tumback. “I would imagine most of the dogs will be gone after the event.”
More than 70 people met the 15 dogs being showcased.
“This is huge to get our name out there,” Tumback said. “It’s also good to get the stigma away from rescue dogs, they’re fantastic animals.”
Tumback said it frustrates her how people can just abandon their pets.
“Baxter was found in a ditch up in La Loche,” she said. “That bothers me because of the minus 40 temperatures and the disrespect some people have for their dogs.”
During the event dogs walked a catwalk, met with potential forever families and barked a bit too.
