The Saskatoon Blades will pay homage to the province’s agricultural history when they host Lethbridge on Saturday.
They will sport green and white jerseys for ‘I Love Saskatchewan’ night in partnership with PotashCorp.
The shirts feature a logo in the shape of the province and a neckline reading “I Heart Saskatchewan” – designed by Saskatoon company, Hardpressed.
“I love it. Some Saskatchewan green – it might be my favourite,” said Blades forward Jesse Shynkaruk, who has worn his fair share of third jerseys over his four-year WHL career.
The jerseys will be auctioned off post-game with proceeds going towards Saskatchewan food banks.
“We don’t see as much food coming through the door in January, so this is a perfect time,” said Laurie O’Connor, executive director of the Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre.
Fans are also asked to bring a non-perishable food item to the game.
“It’s very difficult for people to make ends meet and we’re seeing 21,000 people come in each month.”
Bins will be located at all the entries to SaskTel Centre for drop-offs of food.
