Syrian family in Saskatoon reflects on destruction in Aleppo

A refugee family in Saskatoon is reflecting on the devastation in the war-torn city of Aleppo, Syria.

An estimated 400,000 Syrians have been killed and close to five million have fled the country since the civil war began in 2011.

“The world needs to help all of Syria,” said Jihad Mohamad, through translator Mohammad Abushar.

Mohamad, his wife et Intisar Dagheli and three children now call Saskatoon home after fleeing the country almost a year ago.

“People can’t find shelter, a place to sit, or even live there,” Mohamad said.

The family is asking Canadians to pray for the people of Aleppo to get the help they need.

“I’m very sad on what’s happening to everyone in Aleppo,” Dagheli said.

Mohamad said its hard to explain the images of war to their young children.

“My son asked me if we were going back home the other day,” he said.

“I had to tell him it’s not safe, but we hope to go back one day.”
