A little bit of smoke or steam curled from the broken bottom window of the apartment building at Retallack Street and 14th Avenue as firefighters brought fans in to air the building out.
A charred futon frame sat on the snow just a few feet away from the window while a piece of what looked like burned fabric sat nearby.
Fire crews were called to the building around 9:40 a.m. When they got there, there was smoke all through the building.
The building had to be evacuated, but three people needed help from firefighters to get out.
Fire Marshall Randy Ryba said two of the people had to be assisted out of the suite with the fire, while the other was trapped in the suite adjacent to the fire.
Those three were treated by EMS.
On Monday morning, Ryba said it was too early to say what started the fire, or how much damage had been done to the building.
