Labour Minister Don Morgan entered the lion’s den attending the Saskatchewan Federation of Labour convention Thursday.
In his speech to the delegates in Regina, he focused on the efforts to improve workplace safety and the working relationship government has with the labour community.
But he went off-script to talk about any potential sale of SaskTel or any other Crown.
He was mostly met with boos and cried of “shame”.
Morgan took questions from delegates most of which focused on this issue.
“Sask Party’s promises are empty and hold no weight”, one delegate said to a standing ovation.
“Every time I work into my workplace there is an overwhelming sense of fear…please pass this message to Brad, shame on him for not running on a truthful campaign.”
Thanking the lady for her words, Morgan promised to pass the message along.
He repeated both to the delegates and reporters that the government is not trying to actively sell SaskTel.
“We are not looking to market it, we are not looking to sell it, but we have an obligation to the shareholders, the people of the province, to come back to them with some degree of certainty and say this is what has happened,” Morgan insisted.
Morgan ended his time at the SFL convention by thanking delegates and saying you come to these events knowing that “sometimes you have hear things you don’t want to hear but you need to hear”.
