Get ready to bundle up for the long haul this winter.
AccuWeather is forecasting temperatures in Saskatchewan will be colder this winter than the 30-year average.
Senior meteorologist Jack Boston said the dip in the mercury will likely start when an arctic air mass moves into the province in December.
“We will see more intrusions of arctic air coming down, which will knock our temperatures down below normal,” He told 650 CKOM Tuesday.
According to AccuWeather’s projections, January and February will be the usual worst offenders for cold – with an added bonus this time of being around four degrees cooler than normal.
Once the cold air moves in, it’s expected to stick around until as late as April.
“We’re not expecting it to be a quick turnaround to spring weather by any means,” Boston said.
Luckily it’s not all bad news – most of Saskatchewan is expected to get less snow than average.
“The one saving grace to this winter is once we get passed November and December, I think we’re looking at more of a dry pattern,” Boston said.
