The early bird gets the worm but in this case their vote.
More than 40 people lined up for advance voting at City Hall Saturday morning.
“It only took me two minutes,” said April Nechvatel, who was one of the first voters at City Hall. “I like advanced voting because I don’t have to wait in the line. I also don’t have to worry about my work schedule, so that’s why I always advance vote.”
They’re open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at City Hall, Lawson Heights Mall, Confederation Mall, Market Mall and The Centre Mall.
“I travel for work, so advanced voting is really convenient for me,” said Erin McKay. “I know I’m here today (Saturday), so it’s easier to get it done, plus no lines is a bonus.”
Voters were also able to take advantage of free parking in front of the City Hall polling station.
“I’ve always done advanced voting because I can’t stand lines,” said Lori Seaborn. “I always end up getting into arguments with people on election day.”
But that wasn’t the only discussion at the polls.
“I want online voting so bad,” said Nechvatel. “It worked really well with the census, so I think it would work well voting, plus it would increase voter turnout big time.”
McKay said the security of online voting wouldn’t be an issue.
“We bank online, file our taxes online, so I don’t understand why we can’t vote online,” she said.
The last day to vote in advanced polls is Oct. 22nd.
Election Day is Oct. 26th.
