It’s a moment University of Saskatchewan Huskies kicker Sean Stenger won’t forget.
The third year hit a 10-yard chip shot in double overtime, which lifted the Huskies to a 41-39 home opening win over the Regina Ram.
It was a sellout crowd of 7735 people Friday night at Saskatoon’s Griffiths Stadium in PotashCorp Park.
The Huskie kicker finished the night 6-for-7 on field goals.
“It was a heck of a football game,” said Huskies head coach, Brian Towriss. “We get the two points, but no real loser in that game. Especially not the fans.”

In the second overtime, the Huskies stopped the Rams on second down and a long field goal was missed wide left for a single.
“We probably had 200 yards in penalties we earned,” said Rams head coach, Steve Bryce, who’s in his first year with the team. “Then probably 100 yards we think we didn’t earn. You can’t make a bunch of mistakes against a solid team and expect to win.”
The Rams were penalized 175 yards in the game.
This was the first Canada West overtime game since September 13, 2014 and the Rams first overtime game in nearly 11 years.
Huskie quarterback Kyle Siemens finished the game 28-42 for 338 yards and three touchdowns.
“You come out in front of that big crowd every year and your hyped up,” Towriss said. “At the start because of that hype we blew formations and it took a little while for us to settle in.”

Rams quarterback Noah Picton went 29-41 for 471 yards and four touchdowns in the loss. He also had over 100 yards rushing and that made him just the second player in Rams history to throw for at least 400 yards and rush for more than 100.
“His scrambling was awesome,” Bryce said. “We should have caught a lot more for him, we need to fix some things with the receivers dropping balls.”
The Rams now prepare for their home opener, set for Thursday against Manitoba and the Huskies travel to meet the Alberta Golden Bears next week.
