The ball was still rolling late Sunday morning in Regina as a local group works to break the record for the longest floor hockey game ever.
Larisa Tardif is one of the organizers of the attempt and said the attempt was born out of a movie the group was shooting.
“We are doing it in conjunction with a film that we are making in the city … it’s also about floor hockey, within the film itself, the lead character organizes a fund raiser to beat this world record, so we thought we’d do it in the film and we’d do it in real life as well.”
The organizers of the attempt are aiming to play for 62 hours straight, which would beat the current record of 60 hours.
There are two different lines of players taking part.
While one line plays, the other one rests.
Eric Bumphrey has been playing since the attempt started and said taking part is like nothing else he has ever done.
“I’ve never done anything like this in my life, it’s exhausting … nonstop for three days … you have rest breaks but there never enough.”
Bumphrey said one of the most difficult challenges has been getting sleep during the attempt.
“We had a hellish four hour session where … each line played for four hours, gave the other team a chance to sleep, but four hours isn’t enough.”
Besides being tiring the attempt is physically demanding.
Carson Behiel said playing for such a long time is making him a bit sore.
“My calves are really sore from running a lot and constantly going and only having hour breaks.”
Despite being sore Behiel said he would take part in something like this again if he had the chance.
Besides those playing there are people taking part as score keepers and observers.
Tim Martin explained that it is important to keep records of the game.
“This is … two of the key documents that the Guinness organization will use to show that the game existed for the length of time it did and exactly what happened for that time period.”
Martin said he was impressed with the pace of the game.
“I am surprised at hour 50 something how much energy everyone still has.”
To set the new record the game will need to go until 8:03 tonight.
