It has been a game of beat the heat for many in Saskatchewan as the temperature has soared and the humidity has exacerbated an already sticky feeling.
And for many stuck in air-conditioned offices lunch is a glorious hour to grab a bite and eat it picnic-style. But spare a thought for those cooking in the metal can that is a food truck.
“I’ve been drinking lots of water, at least two bottles,” explained Mike Underhill, inside the Prairie Smoke and Spice truck parked at the City Square Plaza in Regina. “We have an air-conditioner built in to the truck now.”
But Underhill admits work isn’t enjoyable in these conditions.
For those enjoying the fruits of his labour, most are self-confessed basement-dwellers.
“I stay cool in the basement, I barely go upstairs, it is cooler to just sleep down there”, said one person in Victoria Park.
Others embrace the heat with several runners arriving at the YMCA on 13th Avenue right at the heat of the midday sun, “a cool shower helps”.
