James O’Reilly and his wife were among the tens of thousands of people who had to evacuate Fort McMurray this week in the face of a massive wildfire bearing down on the city.
O’Reilly said they consider themselves lucky — they were able to pack up a few things and leave in their camper, so they have a measure of comfort on the road.
But the couple already know they have no home to go back to. About 20 minutes after they left, they were able to watch via an iPhone security camera app as the flames burst into the house they’d lived in for 20 years.
The video was originally five minutes long, but has been sped up in this version.
