A motorcycle driver that attempted to evade police wound up spinning out of control near the railroad tracks just east of downtown Regina.
Just after 7 p.m. on Saturday, police spotted a motorcycle with two riders travelling at a high speed west on Victoria Avenue. They turned on their sirens and followed the motorcycle as it turned onto Arcola Avenue. The motorcycle then turned and ran a red light at 11th Avenue and Winnipeg Street.
Police officers did not believe the motorcycle would stop, so officers turned off the sirens as they observed the driver turning north onto Broad Street. When it was safe to follow, police eventually saw a cloud of dust at the intersection of Broad Street and South Railway Street.
Officers found the female passenger sitting in the middle of the intersection. Tire tracks showed that the motorcycle had skidded out of control. Officers caught up to the male driver who was pushing the motorcycle away and arrested him. Both the driver and passenger were taken to hospital to treat minor injuries.
Michael Andrew Shalanski is charged with: dangerous operation of a vehicle, failing to stop at the scene of an accident involving bodily harm, driving while disqualified and flight from police pursuit.
