Gordie Howe has been recovering well since his stroke in 2014.
His son Mark says his dad forgets quickly, but still understands how important he is to the game.
“I made the mistake. ‘I said ‘dad you want to go to the Red Wing game tomorrow?,'” Mark told WXYZ-TV Detroit. “He was so excited he didn’t really sleep very well last night. It took all he had just to be here today.”
Howe turns 88 on Thursday.
