Call it a mulligan if you will, but the City of Regina could be taking another swing at trying to host a Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) event.
At Wednesday’s executive committee meeting, councillors and the mayor will discuss whether they want to put in a bid for the 2018 Canadian Pacific Women’s Open.
A city report outlines how the week-long golf event could generate more than $8 million to the local economy, based on figures from Golf Canada when the organization assessed other host cities in the past.
The tournament would be broadcast internationally and in past years has been seen in 200 million households worldwide.
The city put in a bid in 2014 to host this year’s event, but it was awarded to Calgary.
If a vote to put in a bid passes, and that bid is accepted, Regina would contribute $100,000 to help put on the event.
