Two women from Warman are outraged after being randomly egged in separate incidents—while driving—on the same night.
Around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Romona Heisler was about to turn onto her crescent in a residential area of Warman when she heard something hit her driver side window.
“At first I thought it was a rock because it was loud and it kind of shocked me. I got out of the car and I looked and it was egged.”
Heisler said the eggs were thrown from a small, four-door car that sped away. She dropped off her daughter and went looking for the vehicle.
“And I couldn’t find anybody to get a plate number or anything. I looked everywhere that they would have turned,” she said.
Earlier that night, Suzette Beynon said she saw something white sail out of a passing car and hit her headlight while she was driving into Warman on the old 305 entrance. She hit the breaks and watched the car turn off of the highway and appear to re-enter the city.
Like Heisler, Beynon said she couldn’t get a license plate number or see the make of the car. She wishes she had followed the vehicle but said she was too stunned at the time.
“It’s kind of unnerving. Why would somebody want to throw an egg at you so you can’t see where you’re driving?”
On social media, some Saskatoon residents said they were egged earlier this week, also by someone in a car. However, Saskatoon police say they have not received any reports.
Heisler and Beynon said they reported the incidents to police, and Warman RCMP confirm they have received those reports. Officers say they’re looking for more information from the public.
Beynon said not only was her vehicle vandalized, but her and her kids, who were also in the vehicle, were put in a potentially dangerous situation.
“You’re driving and you shouldn’t have to worry about stuff come flying at you while you’re in your own car.”
Both women are thankful the eggs didn’t hit their windshields while they were driving. Sometimes the first reaction is to turn on the window wipers which smears the egg, making visibility even worse.
The women don’t know who was involved or if it was connected to some sort of gang activity, like some residents have suggested. RCMP aren’t aware of that being the case.
