Man chases down his stolen truck, corners thief

A Saskatoon man has his truck back after he followed and trapped the guy who stole it from a Tim Horton’s parking lot Saturday morning in what police called an “inevitable” crime.

The man met a friend at the Tim Horton’s at 22nd Street and Avenue G, and left his keys in the ignition of his Dodge pickup.
“It did not take long for the inevitable to occur,” the Saskatoon Police release said. “The owner of the red pickup soon noticed his truck on its way out of the parking lot.”

The pair got into the friend’s vehicle and followed the stolen truck. The victim’s brother was in line at the Tim Horton’s drive-thru and joined the chase.
 
Police were also called, but before they arrived the three men boxed in the stolen truck in the 500 block of Ave J South. The police release said the thief tried to escape by driving through two fences but “realizing the gig was up,” gave himself up to police who had arrived on the scene.

The 26-year-old Saskatoon man faces charges of theft and dangerous driving. He was brought before a Justice of the Peace Saturday evening and was released to appear in Provincial Court on Jan. 20, 2016.
