Police have issued arrest warrants for a pair of brothers accused of beating two men outside a Sutherland-area business.
Both men are facing two charges of aggravated assault after the incident was caught on video late last month, but police have not been able to locate 28-year-old Darren Hinds and his 25-year-old brother Darcy.
The brothers were identified by Targeted Enforcement Detectives after a video surfaced earlier this week showing the accused men kicking and punching two men in the 900 block of Central Avenue on Nov. 28.
Police say the victims are 32 and 43 years old and were seriously injured in the assault.
Signs for both Dino’s Bar and Grill and Venice House can be seen in the video. On Monday, a spokesperson for Dino’s Bar and Grill said the larger men have worked at Specklebelly’s, a brewpub just down the street on the corner of Central Avenue and 109th Street, in the past, adding they were frequently seen outside smoking during break-times. However, a representative from Specklebelly’s told CKOM News that those same men haven’t worked at the brewpub since new owners took over in September 2015.
Information provided to police indicated that the incident happened outside Athena Family Restaurant, which recently changed over to a Tomas the Cook restaurant and is housed in the same building as Specklebelly’s Brewpub.
Darren Hinds faces an additional charge of uttering a death threat. On the video, one of the men can be heard saying “I’ll f—–g kill you.”
Hinds and his brother are former University of Saskatchewan Huskies offensive linemen from Sherwood Park, Alberta. Hinds attended training camp for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2010, according to an article in the Sherwood Park News.
Police ask that anyone with information on where the Hinds brothers may be call Saskatoon Police at 306-975-8300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
Warning: This video shows a violent assault and contains harsh language.
