Video of a violent assault posted on YouTube has caught the attention of the Saskatoon Police Service.
The video surfaced over the weekend, showing two large men assaulting two smaller men on a Central Avenue sidewalk outside businesses in the Sutherland neighbourhood. One man is knocked to the ground after being punched in the side of the head from behind. Another man is thrown into a nearby parked vehicle and then repeatedly stomped and kicked in the head while he is on the ground.
On Monday, police said the incident happened on Nov. 28 in the 900 block of Central Avenue. They indicated that the video has been turned over to detectives who are now looking to speak to the victims and any witnesses.
Signs for both Dino’s Bar and Grill and Venice House can be seen in the video. A spokesperson for Dino’s Bar and Grill said the larger men in the video have worked at Specklebelly’s, a brewpub just down the street on the corner of Central Avenue and 109th Street, in the past, adding they were frequently seen outside smoking during break-times. Dino’s doesn’t employ bouncers, he said.
A representative from Specklebelly’s said the two larger men in the video haven’t worked at the brewpub since new owners took over in September 2015.
Despite a social media post apologizing about “the situation on central ave.”, Specklebelly’s said the incident did not involve their establishment.

The police service’s Alyson Edwards said the information police received is that the incident occurred outside Athena Family Restaurant, which recently changed over to a Tomas the Cook restaurant. It is housed in the same building as Specklebelly’s Brewpub.
