The upcoming assault trial for Roughrider Taj Smith is being pushed back.
The trial was originally scheduled for Dec. 14 to 16 this year, but it has now been pushed back to an unknown date because lawyers for the crown and defense say they need more time to prepare.
Smith is accused of beating a man outside Regina’s Pure Ultra Lounge on Aug. 18, 2013. Charges were dropped against two of his former teammates.
Smith played the first few games of the 2015 season for the Roughriders but was put on the injured list for the rest of the year. He is a free agent in February.
