The Moose Jaw Union hospital is on the way out with the new hospital fully operational as of Wednesday.
Everything started being carted over on Monday this week, and emergency services were moved there Tuesday.
The hospital was announced in 2009, and cost about $99.5 million. It’s been under construction since 2013.
The hospital will be called Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital, after the late doctor and surgeon who served in Saskatchewan for 44 years. The Wigmore family donated $2.5 million to the hospital.
There was a big push in the design of this hospital for patient privacy. Patients won’t have to share rooms. All of them are private. There are fewer rooms, but they’re multi-purpose, so administration says they’ll be able to use more.
The hospital will house an MRI machine as well as the hyperbaric chamber which made headlines earlier this year, but not until January.
There will be a grand opening held for the hospital on Friday.
