Its been a bad week for serious crashes in Estevan — and two of them apparently involve alcohol.
The most recent was Wednesday evening. A 53-year-old man died in hospital – a passenger in a vehicle driven by 42-year-old Karry Biette. Biette was also seriously hurt as was another passenger. Biette faces numerous charges including impaired driving causing death. He was once a captain of the Regina Pats and coached the Estevan Bruins from 2005 to 2011.
Last Saturday, three people inside a taxi suffered serious injuries when the vehicle was struck head on by another vehicle going the wrong way. Alcohol is believed to be factor.
The third such collision in eight days was on Oct. 6. Two pedestrians were struck in a crosswalk. A 69-year-old woman was killed, and her 73-year-old husband is still in critical condition. Alcohol is not believed involved in that crash.
