The Regina Pats got the start they were looking for to their five game road trip with a 6-2 win in Medicine Hat.
The win was not only the first of the road swing but also the team’s third win in a row after losing three of their first four to open the season. Through those first four games, the Pats struggled to score goals. Since then, they’ve scored 17 goals during this three game winning streak.
The Pats opened the scoring late in the first period with a powerplay goal from Sergey Zyborovskiy. The marker was Zyborovskiy’s third goal of the year, matching his total from all of last season.
Another defenceman, Connor Hobbs, gave the Pats a 2-0 lead with a powerplay goal of his own under six minutes into the second period. Mark Rasswell got the Tigers on the board a few minutes later cutting the Pats lead in the half heading into the third period.
The Pats regained their two goal lead less than five minutes into the third with a shorthanded goal from Austin Wagner. Max Gerlach got the Tigers within one again just 26 seconds later with a powerplay goal. The Pats would pull away from there with goals from Adam Brooks, Sam Steel and Brady Pouteau. Pouteau’s empty net goal was the first goal of his WHL career.
The Pats are back in action on Wednesday night as they travel to Lethbridge to take on the Hurricanes. The Pats return home on Oct. 25 as they welcome the Prince Albert Raiders.
