Saskatoon Transit has unveiled a 10-year plan that will make riding the bus easier for riders and better for the environment.
“We’re going to reduce the overall age of our transit fleet by five years and customers will notice the difference,” director of transit Jim McDonald said.
The newer buses are already being added into circulation and offer wider aisles, air conditioning, bigger windows and better seats.
“It’s also more cost effective to operate newer buses over their life span because we don’t have to rely as much on extra maintenance and back-up buses.”
According to the city, the newer buses will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and save tens of thousands of dollars in fuel costs a year.
The plan also aims to provide riders with better service, by tripling the number of buses running on busy routes.
