A man in Balgonie calls the damage to his property extensive after he says it was targeted by vandals.
Adryan Toth was in Calgary as part of a work retreat this past weekend. While there – through video surveillance – he noticed that his vehicle back home had been tagged with graffiti Sunday morning at 1:42 a.m. He got neighbours to inspect and they discovered even more damage.
Once he was back home, he could see the destruction for himself. Toth’s house, garage and Jeep were all tagged with the letters ‘NS’ in black spray paint. He claims some sort of solvent was poured on his vehicle and asphalt driveway, and what he believes is used engine oil was thrown on his newly-built deck and steps.
“I immediately buckled over. I actually was short of breath. I was embarrassed, I was shocked, I was distraught,” he recalled. “I felt pretty isolated and pretty afraid when I first saw that wondering, oh man, what’s going on, what’s happening here?”
Toth, a lawyer in Regina, believes this wasn’t a random attack considering he’s been the target of vandalism over the past two years. He revealed he’s had a light smashed out and tires slashed. However, he doesn’t believe it’s a direct result of his profession.
Police recommended previously he install cameras and he took them up on that advice. The cameras caught two individuals wearing bunny hugs, hats and masks, he explained.
One of the individuals carried two jugs onto his property, he said after seeing the video.
“The people who did this knew what to use in order to damage the property. It was well planned out. They hit it quick and they hit it in a very methodical way. They were in and out in probably about a minute, minute-and-a-half,” Toth described.
At first he believed the ‘NS’ tags left behind may have indicated a gang. However, he said police informed him that’s likely not the case as these particular tags don’t fit with any current gang.
“This is just too dramatic, too over the top so it looks to them like it’s somebody who had it out for me that is really trying to scare me.”
That video is now in the hands of police. Toth will work to clean up the vandalism, explaining that his insurance will cover the damages. He urged anyone with information to contact White Butte RCMP.
“It’s not something that you expect in a small town like this to see just going down the street. It’s a lovely community and this was just over the top.”
